Our Lasting Powers of Attorney Pricing

The free initial consultation is limited to a one-hour appointment at one of our branch offices. It is intended to be a ‘fact-finding’ session to enable us to provide you with the necessary advice and guidance to provide us with clear instructions.

Should you require a home visit a fee of £150 plus VAT shall apply.

The free initial consultation does not include advice on lifetime estate planning outside of Lasting Powers of Attorney. Where an initial consultation is required for reasons other than in respect of the preparation of a lasting power of attorney, a fixed fee of £200 plus VAT shall apply.

Examples of services not included within the price

Acting as your Certificate Provider

An LPA must have a certificate provider. They must sign the LPA. The certificate provider is an impartial person who helps protect the donor’s interests by checking that the donor understands the LPA and is making it of their own free will.

We charge a fee of £50 plus VAT for each certificate we are asked to give.

OPG fees – Reductions and exemptions

It costs £82 to apply to register an LPA but if the donor has a low income or gets certain means-tested benefits, they can apply for them to pay a lower or no fee. Our legal fee does not include the preparation of an application for a reduction in the Office of the Public Guardian fees payable to process and register the LPA.

  • Where you are unable to provide to us an original copy of your identity documents then we are able to undertake electronic identity verification checks at a fee of £25 plus VAT per check.
• Variation to your instructions once the draft LPA has been prepared
  • Additional charges will apply if you provide additional instructions after the draft documentation has been provided to you for approval. These charges will be calculated based on the additional time expected to prepare the revised draft.See below table for our current hourly rates: -Partners/Members: £260.00 per hour
    Assistant Solicitors: £210.00 per hour
    Trainee Solicitors/Paralegals: £195.00 per hourAll fee quotes are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.

Disbursements

It costs £82 to apply to register an LPA. LPAs must be registered in order to be effective. This fee is chargeable for each LPA and is payable to the Office of the Public Guardian. The fee covers the cost of processing the application, not just registering the LPA. This is another reason to ensure you seek the advice of a solicitor. If you make a mistake resulting in the LPA not being registerable, you may still incur the cost of the OPG application fee.

VAT on Solicitors Fees

Our professional charges are subject to payment of VAT. Please note that vat will be payable at the prevailing rate as at the invoice date. You will be provided with a VAT Invoice in respect of our charges.

We aim to draft the documentation within one week of receiving instructions from you. We do ask for full payment on account of costs prior to commencing the legal work. The timescales to application are really dependent on the individuals you’ve chosen. The attorneys, replacement attorneys and certificate provider all need to sign the LPA before an application for registration can be made.

Once an application to the OPG has been made, it can take up to 20 weeks to register an LPA if there are no mistakes in the application.
