Why is using AI not as effective as an Initial Consultation with a Family Law Specialist?
AI is a useful tool for understanding the basic principles of family law. It can identify legal frameworks and generate standard solutions to problems; however, there are three main limitations to utilising AI as an alternative to having an initial consultation with a family law specialist.

Adaptation to Individual Cases
By the nature of family law, every case is different; no relationship is the same, no divorce is the same, and no child issue is the same. AI cannot provide tailored advice to each individual scenario based on the limited and sometimes incorrect legal information it is provided by online sources. Not all cases are published online, mainly due to the fact that not all family law cases enter the courtroom; therefore, AI only benefits from a limited number of scenarios which may not be compatible with your real-life experience.
Our family law specialists work with real people and real families and have levels of adaptable experience unmatched by AI.
During an initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to go through in detail the nature of your enquiry, the problems you wish to resolve and subsequently receive specialist and tailored advice, based on your circumstances. It is important to us that the advice we provide is realistic; therefore by tailoring this to your individual situation, we are able to propose the way forward that we consider to be in your best interests.
The Emotional Element
Family Law is a sensitive area of our practice; we assist people with situations that they may never have envisaged being in nor knowing how to find the solution to their issue(s). At Kew Law LLP, we pride ourselves on our personable approach to your legal matter and our ability to adapt to your emotional needs.
During difficult times, a lot of our clients need an empathetic yet direct approach where their frustrations, upsets and needs are heard, and they are provided with effective next steps to reach a realistic and effective solution.
An initial consultation provides you with the opportunity to explain your experiences, with the support of a family law specialist who can ask further necessary questions in order to fully understand your legal position. AI cannot provide this level of emotional support; it does not adapt to your emotional needs nor take into consideration the impact of your emotions when trying to reach a solution.
Confidentiality
Family Law matters are confidential. During proceedings, you may be afforded confidential information from your spouse or confidential information relating to children matters. These documents should not be uploaded onto public AI platforms as this puts the confidential information at risk. Consequently, AI should not be reviewing confidential information nor providing you with advice on the same. For example, during matrimonial financial proceedings, parties may engage in financial disclosure whereby each party provides their bank statements, payslips, pension values and further personal information. As family law specialists, we review these documents and provide you with tailored advice, based on your circumstances.
During an initial consultation, we can advise on the reasons why financial disclosure is key to reaching an informed decision on the fairness of any financial settlement in divorce, we can explain the process of financial disclosure together with the steps involving the review of confidential information provided by your spouse during disclosure.
