Managing Property and Financial Affairs

We all hope to go on managing our own affairs for as long as possible and no elderly person should be prevented from doing so where possible. As an elderly person’s needs increase, so does the extent to which someone else needs to intervene to manage a part, or the whole, of that persons estate. The manner in which this is done depends on a wide range of factors according to the nature of a persons estate. Some assets can be dealt with individually with minimal formality but in other cases a person is able to give an authority to deal with the full extent of his or her assets (by giving a Lasting Power of Attorney for Property and Financial Affairs) and if this is inadequate or no such authority is in place, the invovlement of the Court of Protection may be required.
